Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper presented its 16th Scholastic Excellence Awards at a function held at Alagar Mahal here on Thursday. Mrs.S.Madhumathi IAS, Commissioner, Thoothukudi City Municipal Corporation presented the awards to the district toppers of 10th and 12th public examinations.
The first, second and third rank holders of 12th standard examination were conferred with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. The first, second and third rank holders of 10th standard examination were presented a certificate and cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. Mr.K.Munusamy, Chief Educational Officer, Thoothukudi presented the awards to the toppers among government schools in the district.
Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper presented awards to the schools as well as teachers who produced rank holders.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs.S.Madhumathi said, “I appreciate the efforts taken by Sterlite to motivate underprivileged children to go for higher education.”
Mr.P.Ramnath congratulated all the award winners and said that Sterlite was privileged to be part of their success and will continue to support the cause of education. He also added that Sterlite is giving educational scholarships to poor children every year.

Noor Benazir. M.I (1152 marks) of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kayalpatnam, Velkani.E (1151 marks) of Government Higher Secondary School, Valavallan and Velammal.S (1145 marks) of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kovilpatti received the awards under government schools category.

Tree saplings were also presented to everyone to commemorate the world environment day.
