Thoothukudi, October 28: Ilam Mottukal is a learning enhancement program of Sterlite Copper for the holistic development of girl child. The program is committed towards comprehensive development of girl students by providing them remedial support to enhance their performance in school and beyond. Science Mela organized by Vedanta Sterlite Copper on 28th October is yet another occasion where 2,500 Ilam mutual from 94 schools participated and exhibited their enthusiasm in various scientific themes.
Science Mela was inaugurated by Mr. C. Murugeswaran, Head Projects & PR, Sterlite Copper in presence of Mr. S. Venkata Madavraj, AEEO Science, Mr. S.T Chellapandian, Correspondent, Caldwell School, Dr. S.E.C Devasahayam, Bishop, CSI Thoothukudi and Dr. R. Kailasam.
While addressing the gathering Mr. C. Murugeswaran said that Sterlite Copper gives various platforms for students to excel in their career. Sterlite Copper is verymuch happy to build the younger generation, who are the future of India and the World. He urged students to utilize effectively all the opportunities provided and thus make their education career a great success.
In the times of world filled with scientific developments and inventions, scientific literacy has become a necessity for everyone. Everyone needs to use scientific information to make choices that arise every day. Considering the need to promote scientific temperament, curiosity for scientific phenomenon, development of metacognitive skills and analytical skills in children, the Science Mela claims its relevance. While in the recent years the global community has made significant efforts in inspiring and engaging women and girls in science, unfortunately, they continue to be excluded from participating fully in the discipline. Science Mela will also create an inquisitiveness amongst girl students of Ilam Mottukal programme to opt for science as a career.
The Science Mela is an occasion where one team comprising 12 children (four children from each category 1-3 Grade, 4-5 Grade and 6-8 Grade) from each Ilam Mottukal Academic Supporting Center will participate and showcase their science models under various themes. About 250 models are displayed on various themes like environment, botany, electronics, health, biology, etc… During the event, children were also interacted with visitors and explained the idea behind the model they are presenting. It was also an opportunity for students to interact with students from other schools to understand, observe and share the scientific thoughts and ideas and there by touch and transform their lives.
