Thoothukudi, February 3, 2018: Sterlite Copper in association with the NGO – Humana to Humana People to People India, organised ‘Talent Hunt 2018’ today at the BMC Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi. The event saw participation from the 8000-plus students enrolled in the Ilam Mottukal project, a key CSR activity implemented by Sterlite Copper.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. C. Murugeswaran, Head, Projects & PR, Sterlite Copper, in the presence of Mr. L. Theerthoose, District Sports & Youth Welfare Officer and Ms. J. Anbu, Assistant Elementary Education Officer (AEEO), Pudukottai. The valedictory function was presided over by Mr. P. Ramnath, CEO, Sterlite Copper.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ramnath recounted his vision behind driving Sterlite Copper to initiate this project, specifically for the holistic development of girl children in Thoothukudi. He also shared that there have been significant changes among girl children through this project, by helping increase self-hygiene among the girl children and their communities. Distributing prizes to all the winners of Talent Hunt 2018, Mr. Ramnath congratulated them on their achievement.

Ilam Mottukal is a flagship CSR initiative by Sterlite Copper, aiming to improve the enrolment and retention of girl children in schools by ensuring quality education. Building leadership skills, increasing effective coordination between education officials and community, and enhancing awareness about girl child education are some of the key goals attained through this project. Through Ilam Mottukal, Sterlite Copper ensures that vital social, moral and material support reaches 8046 children in 94 government and government-aided primary schools in and around Tuticorin.
Talent Hunt 2018 is a one-day inter-school event for the girls between Classes I to VIII, seeing participation from among the 8,000 Girls in 94 schools who showcased their inherent talents. Sterlite Copper recognises that each child has a unique set of qualities and talents, which can influence their development when nurtured. The event Talent Hunt 2018 was thus an effort to encourage the innate qualities of the girl children from the Ilam Mottukal project. This platform provides the girl students with opportunities to participate, promote and highlight the best of their talents in an inter-school interaction. Ten different competitions were organised as part of this initiative.
